Los frutos de pimiento picante poseen de manera exclusiva una sustancia, la capsaicina, que act\u00faa como antioxidante, estimulante del metabolismo energ\u00e9tico y supresora de la acumulaci\u00f3n de grasas, anti-inflamatoria y neuroestimulante. Recientemente se han desarrollado diversas l\u00edneas de investigaci\u00f3n enfocadas al empleo de la capsaicina como posible tratamiento frente a diversos tipos de c\u00e1ncer. Por lo general, estos estudios se han realizado con la sustancia pura, habi\u00e9ndose modelizado su mecanismo de acci\u00f3n para determinar algunas de dichas funciones.<br \/>\nNo obstante, en nuestra reciente publicaci\u00f3n en colaboraci\u00f3n con el grupo de los investigadores Jose Manuel Palma y Francisco Javier Corpas de la estaci\u00f3n experimental del Zaid\u00edn, hemos demostrado que son los extractos de pimiento verde dulce y no los de picante, que contienen altos niveles de capsaicina, los que muestran una mayor actividad anti-proliferativa en siete l\u00edneas tumorales: h\u00edgado, pulm\u00f3n, p\u00e1ncreas, mama, pr\u00f3stata, colon y piel. Paralelamente, hemos podido establecer a trav\u00e9s de una aproximaci\u00f3n metabol\u00f3mica no dirigida que la quercetina y sus derivados (quercitrina, quercetina rhamnoside, quercetina 3-(2Gal-apiosylrobinobioside)) as\u00ed como el gingerglicolipida A se encuentran significativamente en mayor concentraci\u00f3n en frutos verdes.<br \/>\nLa aprobaci\u00f3n del proyecto PIMANTICAN nos permitir\u00e1 profundizar en la identificaci\u00f3n y caracterizarizaci\u00f3n de los compuestos responsables de dicha actividad en el pimiento dulce. La investigaci\u00f3n se abordar\u00e1 mediante an\u00e1lisis metabol\u00f3mico no dirigido, el fraccionamiento de los extractos de pimiento dulce verde y la identificaci\u00f3n de las mol\u00e9culas contenidas en las fracciones que muestren dicha actividad antitumoral. Una vez identificados los principios activos, se llevar\u00e1n a cabo ensayos para determinar la concentraci\u00f3n \u00f3ptima de los mismos que produzcan un 50% de muerte celular (IC50) en cada una de las l\u00edneas, lo que est\u00e1 orientado a fines biotecnol\u00f3gicos con una aplicaci\u00f3n farmacol\u00f3gica-biom\u00e9dica futura.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>El pimiento es la hortaliza, despu\u00e9s del tomate, de mayor consumo a nivel mundial.
